Highlanders Drop First Game of Season to Neumann

Houghton University baseball dropped a 14–2 decision to Neumann University on Wednesday in Myrtle Beach. The Knights built an early lead and took advantage of Houghton miscues to control the game throughout.

Neumann 14, Houghton 2

Neumann scored two runs in the first inning and added multi-run frames in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth. Houghton had difficulty slowing the Knights' offense, as Neumann capitalized on defensive errors, free passes, and timely hits to extend innings and create separation.

The Highlanders committed multiple defensive errors, leading to unearned runs and additional scoring opportunities for the Knights. On the mound, Houghton pitchers faced constant pressure, allowing baserunners and struggling to consistently get out of innings before further damage was done.

Offensively, Houghton was limited to five hits. Christian Tortorici paced the lineup with three hits and an RBI. Vincent Lucyszyn added a double and drove in a run as the Highlanders scored once in the sixth and once in the seventh.

Houghton will look to clean up defensive details and find more consistency on the mound as the spring trip continues.

The Highlanders will take a day off Thursday before returning to the field for a doubleheader with St. Joseph's of Long Island on Friday.
