POINT LOOKOUT, MO – Adia Dormu and Kyra McCrary combined for 50 points, as the Paine College Lions overcame a two-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter, eventually defeating the Houghton Highlanders, 87-82.
Paine jumped out to a commanding 25-12 lead after the first quarter, but the Highlanders stormed back in the second, hitting 58 percent of their shots, including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc. At the half, Houghton clung to a two-point advantage.
After a 27-27 draw in the third, Houghton still led by two heading into the final frame.
The teams traded baskets throughout the opening minutes, until Paine eventually peeled off an 8-0 run to go up by six with 1:45 remaining. While the Highlanders continued to battle, they would never reclaim the lead.
