HOUGHTON, NY – Houghton Women's Volleyball split a pair of matches Saturday at the Nielsen Center, falling to St. John Fisher in four sets before dropping a three-set match to Buffalo State.
The Highlanders opened the day with a 3-1 loss to the Cardinals, taking the third set 25-17 after dropping the first two, 25-15 and 25-20, before Fisher closed out the match 25-18 in the fourth. Houghton then fell to Buffalo State in three sets, 25-19, 25-20, and 25-12.
Against St. John Fisher, Houghton finished with 30 kills and a .095 hitting percentage while recording 28 assists, six service aces, 46 digs, and five total blocks.
Alexa Belanger led the Highlanders with 13 kills and 10 digs, while
Praylan Perkins added six kills and 11 digs.
Petra Thomas contributed five kills and a team-high .200 hitting percentage.
Morgan Brace directed Houghton's offense against Fisher with 27 assists and added a service ace.
Paige Brennan led the defensive effort with 13 digs, while Belanger recorded 10 and Perkins added 11.
Houghton then struggled offensively against Buffalo State, recording 28 kills and a .069 hitting percentage. Belanger again led the Highlanders with nine kills, while Perkins finished with six kills and nine digs.
Viktoriia Lozynska and
Petra Thomas added five and four kills, respectively.
The Highlanders recorded 24 assists, five service aces, and 38 digs against Buffalo State.
Katelyn Martin contributed six digs and two service aces, while Brace finished with 21 assists, five digs, and one ace.
