HOUGHTON, NY – The last time the Houghton Highlanders and Nazareth Golden Flyers met on the Burke Field pitch, the Golden Flyers broke a 2-2 tie with less than five minutes remaining to stun the Houghton faithful.
Last year, in Rochester, Nazareth again stymied the Highlanders with a 3-1 victory.
Not today.
From the outset it looked like the Highlanders would dominate the match.
Courtney Walbridge found the back of the cage only 41 seconds into the first quarter, and
Kylee Barshinger stretched the lead to 2-0 less than seven minutes later. In all, Houghton outshot Nazareth, 9-1, over the first 10 minutes.
But the Golden Flyers found their stride in the second quarter, outpacing the Highlanders in shots, 9-8, and cutting their deficit in half on a goal by Addison Andrews in the 23
rd minute.
The second half, however, would belong entirely to the Highlanders, as they scored two goals in the third quarter, and two more in the fourth to complete the win, 6-1.
