Second Half Run Lifts Brockport Over Highlander Men

HOUGHTON, NY – After trailing by double-digits early in the second half, the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles stormed back to topple the Houghton Highlanders, 75-68, on Friday night.

The Highlanders took a 10-point lead into the half, and led by as many as 12 in the opening minutes of the second half.

But over a seven-plus minute stretch, the Golden Eagles outscored the Highlanders, 19-3, reversing their fortunes to take a six-point lead.

Houghton would pull to within three with just over a minute to play on a Lou Bellamy three-pointer, but the Highlanders would come no closer as the Golden Eagles sealed the win.

COACH'S CORNER
"I just have not done a good enough job of training our guys on valuing possessions. We've tried several different things to reduce turnovers, but we had 10 in the first half and 16 in the second half. That cost us another game.

"Everyone that played double-digit minutes had two or more turnovers, except [one]. Our guards had 21 of them. Every team we play ends up with a dozen or more possessions than we do, which puts a lot of pressure on our defense to get more stops in the halfcourt and means we need to be that much better at scoring when we don't turn it over. If we fix it, we will be really tough." - Head Coach Jeremy Bialek

UP NEXT
The Highlanders return to the Nielsen Center tomorrow afternoon when they will take on the SUNY Geneseo Knights at 4:00 p.m.
