CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Houghton women's tennis dropped to 3-5 on the season after a 6-1 non-conference loss at Cortland on Tuesday afternoon.
The loss was the third in a row for the Highlanders, who will look to return to the win column when they travel to take on Brockport on Friday at 4 p.m.
Against the Dragons,
Victoria Martinez earned Houghton's only win for the second-straight match. The sophomore bested her opponent, 6-2, 6-2, in fourth singles.Â
Houghton started the day with three losses in doubles play, before shifting to the singles competitions. The Highlanders played tough in these individual matches, with
Arija Grant (second) and
Abigail Lloyd (fifth) taking their counterparts to three-set tiebreakers. Grant lost 2-6, 6-3, 8-10, while Lloyd fell 1-6, 6-3, 8-10.
