HOUGHTON, NY – The Houghton Highlanders scored two goals in less than three minutes to close out the third quarter, breaking a 0-0 stalemate to defeat the visiting SUNY Oswego Lakers, 2-0.
In the 42
nd minute,
Lilyana Good inserted a corner to
Courtney Walbridge, who ripped a shot from just inside the top of the circle. The Oswego goalie made an impressive save, but the ball deflected to Good on the near post, who backhanded a shot into the back of the cage.
Less than three minutes later, Good inserted another corner to Walbridge, who passed to
Ava Kramp for the shot. Following another diving save by the Oswego goalie, a scrum ensued in front of the Lakers' goal.
Davannah Dunn eventually corralled the ball and whacked home the second goal of the day.
Houghton turned in a dominant second half, spending the overwhelming majority of the final 30 minutes in the Oswego half.
