HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- The stats don't always tell the full story in soccer. That was the case in Friday's season opener vs. Hilbert as the Highlanders dropped a 3-0 decision to the visitors on Burke Field.
Houghton had a 14-7 advantage in shots, and shots on goal were even at four apiece. But it was the Hawks who capitalized on their attacks, scoring on their first two shots and three times in their first four attempts on net.
While the Highlanders pushed deep into Hilbert's territory, they were unable to make many meaningful dangerous chances.
The loss spoils the debut of first-year head coach,
Scott Reitnour, who stepped into the role in the spring.
