Men's Tennis Wraps up Season with Tourney Loss at Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Oswego beat Houghton men's tennis for the third time this season, taking a 6-1 win in the Empire 8 Tournament first round on Tuesday.

After Oswego swept the regular season series, the teams were as the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds in the E8 West Division for the postseason.

Houghton's lone win came at third singles where Graham Cook claimed a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Preston Tobolski and Samuel Garay pushed their second doubles opponents to the limit before falling 8-7. Garay (fourth) and Jason Murphy (sixth) were playing strong in their singles matches but both went unfinished when the Lakers clinched the team win. Garay lost the first set 5-7 and was up 2-1 in set two. Murphy won 7-6 in set one and was 2-1 in his second set.

"What a season. I'm so proud of this team and how much they have grown and developed over this last year," said Head Coach Jordan Crouch. "I am disappointed but so honored to have gotten to work with this special group. Special shoutout to Graham and Nolan. They have had great careers and despite it all being over, I hope they can look back and smile. Credit to Oswego, they're a great team and they made us work today. Best of luck to them going forward with the rest of the tournament. I love this team. Let's go Highlanders!'

Houghton finished the season with an overall record of 5-10.
