HOUGHTON, NY— The #25 Brockport Golden Eagles scored three runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh to break open what had been a one-run game, sending the Houghton Highlanders to their fourth straight loss.
Zach Eldred allowed only two unearned runs for the Golden Eagles, striking out eight over seven innings of work, while picking up his fourth win of the year on the mound. At the plate, Eldred hit his eighth and ninth home runs of the year to lead the Brockport offensive attack.
Eldred hit his first home run in the top of the first, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead in what would turn out to be the only earned run Houghton starter Chris Gross would allow.
Houghton answered in the third when Qingyang Feng smoked a two-out two-run blast over the right field wall to put the Highlanders up, 2-1.
Two costly two-out errors in the sixth led to three unearned Brockport runs, which would prove to be all the Golden Eagles would need as they continued to separate in the late innings.

COACH'S CORNER:
"Chris [Gross] threw incredibly well today. He attacked the zone, changed speeds and kept a very good offensive team off-balance through five innings. That was very encouraging to see.
"Brockport is a very good team. They are well-coached and have a lot of talent. [Zach] Eldred is a dynamic player, both at the plate and on the mound. He's had a lot of excellent days this year, and today was no exception.
"We were right there. We just need to learn to close out games. It will come." – Head Coach
