HOUGHTON, NY – Houghton hosted an AMCC tri-match where they faced Carlow University and PSU Behrend. In the first match, Houghton continued to find success and won the match in a 3-0 sweep collecting their second win of the season. However, during the second match PSU Behrend put together a great match on offensive and defensive side of ball and swept Houghton 3-0.

Houghton hosted AMCC opponent, Carlow on Saturday morning in the first of two conference matchups. Much like the night before, the Highlanders found offensive rhythm in the first set, but Carlow kept the scores close. Houghton eventually gained a several point advantage late in the set and won set one 25-18.
 
The second set was much like the first set. Houghton got out to a fast start and never looked back and won the second set 25-11. In the third set, the Highlanders made some switches and gave some different members of their team the opportunity to get in on the action. The set was close with Carlow having the lead for much of the set, but a late push gave Houghton the 25-23 advantage and the 3-0 sweep.

Recap:

After a break in between their matches, Houghton faced a tough PSU Behrend squad. The Highlanders started set one strong and kept it point for point until the Lions had a late push and won the set 25-21.
 
PSU Behrend had all the momentum from the set one victory and got out to big lead in set two. Houghton tried to get back into the match, but the deficit was too much to overcome, and they succumbed to the Lions 25-9.
 
The third set was much like the first with both teams fighting point-for-point. The Highlanders needed this set to force a fourth, but in the late stages of set three, they could not stop the Lions and lost the set 25-20 and giving PSU Behrend the 3-0 victory.
