PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Houghton softball started its Empire 8 schedule with two losses at St. John Fisher on Thursday afternoon.
The Cardinals won both games in five innings, taking the first 12-0 and the second 18-0.
The host Cardinals were hitting on all cylinders in both contests, exploding for 31 hits, including nine doubles and five home runs on the day. In game one, Fisher scored six runs in the first and four in the second to take charge early.
Danielle Nelson picked up Houghton's only hit in the game.
In the second contest, the Cardinals put four runs across in the first and added seven more in the second. The Highlanders were able to rap out five hits, but the bats of the hosts proved too tough to overcome, as they finished with 19 hits, including two home runs and five doubles.Â
Houghton is back in action on Wednesday, April 2 when they travel to take on Alfred State in non-conference action.
