KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Houghton and Wayland Baptist played to a scoreless tie on Day 2 of the NCCAA Division I Women's Soccer National Tournament on Tuesday.
The teams traded chances on this warm and blustery day as the Highlanders saw two early shots. But the Pioneers would reel off nine straight shots to wrest control from Houghton. Neither side could find the net, and the score stayed 0-0 at the half.Â
Houghton responded with a much more complete second half, more than doubling their first half shot total and pressed with several deep runs as the second half clock ticked away. They needed the heroics of keeper
Preslee Miller to salvage the stalemate, as the sophomore netminder made an outstanding save in the final minutes to keep the game scoreless. Miller reacted well to get her hand on a hard shot and deflected the ball up and off the crossbar before gathering in the carom in front of her net.
The defenses held on both sides as the two keepers combined for six saves in a 0-0 tie.Â
Houghton and No. 2 seed Southwestern Christian sit atop the Pool B standing with four points each. They will face each other Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Full results and a schedule of all matches can be foundÂ
