GENESEO, N.Y. -- Wednesday's women's soccer stats will say that Geneseo controlled the contest and created more scoring chances, but the scoreboard will show a 1-1 as the result, giving Houghton a key point in the E8 standings and improving their chances at making the conference playoffs.

Both goals came early, with Houghton getting in front first on a Taylor Curyto tally in the fifth minute off an assist from Elena Esh. It didn't take the Knights much time to respond, scoring the equalizer less than four minutes later.

Geneseo finished the half with a 7-4 edge in shots. However, the Knights would increase their attack and tighten their defense after the break. The hosts outshot the Highlanders 11-1 over the final 45 minutes.

Hope Russell and Curyto led the Highlanders with two shots apiece.

Preslee Miller made seven saves.

It was the seventh tie of the season for Geneseo (4-4-7; 4-1-4 E8). Houghton's record is now 9-4-3 overall; 3-4-2 in the E8.

Houghton hosts Sage on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
