HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton women's soccer opened up its home schedule with a 5-0 win over Hilbert on Wednesday at Burke Field.
It was the first win of the season for the Highlanders, who controlled play throughout the full 90 minutes.

>> Precision passing and strong defensive play were consistent throughout the contest, with Houghton finally finding the back of the net with a 
Natalie Milne goal in the 16th minute. 
Rileigh Studley placed a perfect 30-yard direct kick into the box and Milne headed it past the keeper.
>> The lead grew to 2-0 in the 30th minute on a goal from 
Morgan Applegate.
>> The Highlanders scored twice more in the 65th and 73rd minutes on tallies from 
Elena Esh and 
Taylor Curyto.
>> The final goal was credited as a own goal, but 
Abigail Nuzzo made it happen with a perfectly placed ball into the box that the Hilbert defender put in the net on an attempted clear.

>> Houghton had a dominating 41-1 shots advantage, including a 15-1 edge in shots on goal.
>> The Highlanders also led 10-0 in corners.

Preslee Miller played the first half in goal and did not face a shot, while 
Chesnie Waddingham played the final 45 minutes, making one save.
>> Esh and Milne now lead the Highlanders with three goals apiece on the season

Sophia Templeton picked up her team-leading third assist and just missed on her first career goal on a shot that caromed off the post.
