Free Bases Cost Highlanders in Series Opening Loss to Keuka

HOUGHTON, NY—The Keuka Wolves took home the first of three games on Sunday evening, defeating the Houghton Highlanders, 15-2, thanks to a strong pitching performance from Tanner Olson and a plethora of walks and errors by the Highlanders.

With Keuka's home field unplayable, the two teams moved to Houghton, with the Wolves acting as the home team.

Olson threw a complete game, scattering nine hits, allowing only two walks, while striking out three for his first win of the season.

Houghton pitchers gave up only five hits on the day, but walked 13 batters, and the Highlanders committed five defensive errors.

Keuka capitalized, scoring three runs in the first, and nine more in the second, all on only two hits.

Houghton would score single runs in the fourth and fifth, but the Wolves would answer with three more runs in the bottom of the fifth on two hits and a pair of Highlander errors.

COACH'S CORNER:
"Honestly, our play today was pretty disappointing.  We are capable of more and we expect more from ourselves.  We did not play to the standard we have established.

"I give credit to Keuka—their approaches were better than ours at the plate and they capitalized on our mistakes.  Their pitcher threw strikes all day long and his defense work.

"Tomorrow is a new day and I'm looking forward to getting back to work as quickly as possible." – Head Coach Brian Reitnour

UP NEXT:
