DELHI, N.Y. -- Keri Wesneski,
Danielle Nelson and
Carlee Miller combined for 16Â hits as Houghton softball swept two road games at SUNY Delhi on Wednesday.
Game one went to Houghton, 9-2, while the nightcap was a 9-1 victory. The Highlanders have now won three straight and four of their last six.
In the opener, the top of the order was on fire. Wesneski finished 2-for-5 with two runs, 2 RBI and a double, Nelson was 3-for-4 with 3 runs, an RBI, a double and stolen base, and Miller finished 2-for-2, with a double, 2 runs, 2 RBI and 2 walks.
Chyanne Bushyhead added a hit and 2 RBI. On the mound,
Olivia Carr got the win with a strong performance, going four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out one batter.
Alisabeth Crandall pitched three innings in relief, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Game two was another strong hitting affair for the top three in the order. Wesneski was 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored, a double and stolen base. Nelson finished 3-for-5 with 4 runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base, while Miller kept on her recent torrid tear. The senior was 4-for-5 with 3 runs, 4 RBi, a double, a stolen base and a home run. The homer was Miller's third of the week. Not to be outdone,
Lydia Peterson had Houghton's only other hit, but the senior was credited with 3 RBI in the contest.
Pitching was equally impressive in the nightcap. Freshman
Kareena Ulfig went the distance, allowing just one run on four hits and striking out three batters.
The Highlanders finished the week with a record of 4-1-1. Miller and Nelson were phenomenal at the plate over those six games. Miller was 12-for-20 with 4 doubles, 3 home runs, 6 walks, 11 runs, 13 RBI and a stolen base. Nelson finished the week 11-for-21 with 13 runs, 8 RBI, 2 walks, 2 doubles and 4 stolen bases.
Houghton is back in action when they host Alfred State for two games on Tuesday, April 2 at 3 and 5 p.m.
