HOUGHTON, NY – Kayla Camacho and
Tabitha DeVries scored 21 points apiece, as the Houghton Highlanders kicked off the 2024-25 season with a victory over the visiting Alfred State Pioneers, 77-45.
The Highlanders opened the game hot, outscoring the Pioneers, 20-8 over the first 10 minutes, as DeVries knocked down four of her first five shots.
Alfred State bounced back in the second quarter, edging Houghton 16-15, as the two teams went to the locker rooms with a 35-24 Houghton lead.
The second half belonged to the Highlanders. Houghton forced 16 Alfred State turnovers, and limited the Pioneers to only 17 percent shooting over the final 10 minutes.
