KEUKA PARK, NY – Ainslie Reimer collected her fourth double-double of the season as the Houghton Highlanders pulled out a five-set victory over the Keuka Wolves on Friday night to open Empire 8 conference play.
After the Highlanders posted a victory in the first set, the Wolves battled back to take the next two.
With their backs against the wall, Houghton trailed, 22-21, late in the fourth set. But a kill by
Lilly Bentley, and back-to-back aces from
Natalie Rivera put the Highlanders back in the driver's seat, 24-22.
Keuka picked up a kill to pull within a point, but Reimer put the game in the books, with a kill from
Logan Baer.
The Highlanders then used the momentum from their match-tying win to jump out to a 13-3 lead in the match-deciding fifth set. Keuka, though, would not go quietly, quickly reeling off seven straight points to cut the Houghton lead to 13-10.
But kills from
Katie Naprawa and
Ella Smith sealed the match for the Highlanders.
