HOUGHTON, NY – The Houghton Highlanders scored two goals in the final seven minutes of play to overcome a 3-2 deficit, defeating the visiting Utica Pioneers, 4-3.
Mackenzie Mix scored three goals for the Pioneers, the last of which came on a penalty stroke in the 48
th minute, breaking a 2-2 stalemate and putting Utica up by a goal.
But six minutes later,
Adria Hartzler found
Bekah Davie for her 10
th goal of the season, re-knotting the score at three goals apiece.
Davie's goal was the 55
th of her career, making her the Houghton all-time goal-scoring leader, passing Kelley Mazzeo's (2002-05) record of 54.
With just over three minutes remaining on the clock,
Jace Hunzinger won a ball on the right wing, centered a pass to
Deborah Cross, who found Hartzler inside the top of the circle. Hartzler beat her defender and ripped a backhanded shot past the keeper for the game-winner.
