Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Highlanders Fall Twice at NCCAA Invitational

N. CHILI, N.Y. -- Houghton men's volleyball lost twice on Day 1 of the NCCAA Invitational Tournament hosted by Roberts Wesleyan on Friday.

The sixth-seeded Highlanders lost 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-15) to No. 2 Redeemer University in their first match and dropped their second match to No. 4 Roberts Wesleyan 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-17).

Elijah Sproull and Devin Burns led the Houghton attack vs. Redeemer, with each tallying five kills. Sproull also led the team with a .231 hitting percentage and six assists. Burns and Gabriel Lucena shared the team-high in digs with six.

Houghton (0-5) pushed the Royals in all three sets, but couldn't close the door, as Redeemer pulled away late in each game.

Against Roberts, Sproull's five kills led the team. Jerry Buno finished with a team-high eight assists and eight digs.

The Highlanders played especially strong in sets one and three vs. the Raiders, but still came up on the short end in the three-set loss.

Houghton's Day 2 consolation match-ups on Saturday are against No. 1 Warner at 10 a.m. and No. 7 Maranatha Baptist at 3 p.m.
