HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Eight Houghton University athletics teams have been recognized as Winter/Spring 2022-23 Scholar Teams by the National Christian College Athletic Association.
To be eligible for this award, teams need a minimum semester grade point average of 3.40 on a 4.00 scale for all combined student-athletes on the team.
"We are incredibly honored and proud to see our teams being recognized for their remarkable achievements in the classroom," said Director of Athletics Matthew Webb. "Our student-athletes are committed to their studies, showcasing their dedication, discipline, and time management skills. These accolades reflect their ability to balance the demands of their sport with academic excellence. We are proud of their hard work and congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition."
Houghton had the most teams among the 21 institutions and 42 Scholar-Teams honored.
Below are the Houghton teams to earn the honor:
Women's Basketball – 3.40 GPA
Women's Tennis – 3.80
Women's Indoor Track – 3.65
Women's Outdoor Track – 3.59
Men's Indoor Track – 3.43
Men's Outdoor Track – 3.43
Men's Tennis – 3.49
Softball – 3.41
These eight teams join the women's soccer program, which was honored by the NCCAA for the fall semester.
