ALFRED, N.Y. -- Houghton softball lost twice to Alfred University on the road Saturday to close the week of conference play. Houghton fell in game one, 9-0, before losing 9-1 in game two.
Game 1
The Saxons scored early, in the bottom of the first, bringing in one run. In the second inning, Alfred scored one more, bringing the score to 2-0. Houghton could not get their bats going and brought the Saxons back up to score seven runs in the bottom of the third.
Kayla Loomis pitched all four innings. She allowed eight hits, four earned runs, and three walks.
Game 2
Alfred came out and scored three in the bottom of the first, all unearned runs. In the top of the third, Chyanne Bushyhead hit a solo homerun, her sixth of the season. The Saxons did not settle and scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, bringing the score to 6-1. Alfred added to their lead scoring two more in the fifth inning. Houghton couldn't get any runs across and Alfred walked it off with a single to center field, taking the win from the Highlanders, 9-1.
The Highlanders had five total hits in game two. Elise Swanson had two singles, Hannah Chorey had one double, and Carlee Miller had a single.
Jennifer Burrows pitched 5.1 innings. She allowed 12 hits, six earned runs, and two walks.
Houghton softball is back in action at home against Elmira College on Wednesday, April 26 for a doubleheader at 3 and 5 p.m.
