HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton softball fell twice more in conference action Wednesday, dropping two to Elmira at home. The Highlanders lost 5-0, before losing 7-2 in game two.
Game 1
Houghton could not get their bats going, only having five hits in game one. Jen Page led the Highlanders with a 2-for-3 showing. The Soaring Eagles came out swinging, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Elmira capitalized on their lead in the second and third inning, scoring one run in each.
Houghton couldn't get any runs across and Elmira scored one more in the top of the sixth to take the shutout from the Highlanders.
Kayla Loomis pitched all seven innings, allowing seven hits, four earned runs, three walks, and had six strikeouts.
Game 2
After two strong defensive innings for both teams, the Soaring Eagles scored first in the top of the third, scoring one run. Elmira capitalized on their lead by addomg two runs in the top half of the third inning.
Houghton scored their two runs of the day in the bottom of the third. Chyanne Bushyhead doubled, scoring Kristin Keller. Elise Swanson had an RBI with a groundout to the shortstop, scoring Jen Page.
Elmira responded in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs. The Eagles added to their lead in the bottom of the seventh, taking the score to 7-2. The Highlanders couldn't get their bats going which resulted in two losses on the day.
Jennifer Burrows got the start in game two, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing 10 hits, four earned runs, one walk, and had one strikeout. Alisabeth Crandall came on in relief in the top of the third. Crandall pitched 3.2 innings, allowing two hits, one earned run, no walks, and had one strikeout.
Houghton softball is back at home on Friday, April 28 for a doubleheader against Utica University at 3 and 5 p.m.
