Softball Drops Two at St. John Fisher

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Houghton softball lost twice on the road to St. John Fisher, bringing their conference record to 1-7. The Highlanders lost 4-1 in the opening game, before losing 12-0 in a five inning matchup to close the day.

Game 1

Houghton came out strong, scoring first in the first inning. Three singles in a row from Lydia Peterson, Chyanne Bushyhead and Elise Swanson loaded the bases for Carlee Miller. Miller walked to score Lydia Peterson. This was the only run that Houghton could put across on the day.

The Cardinals responded in the bottom of the first to bring the score to 1-1. Fisher added to their lead in the third, fourth, and sixth inning, scoring one run in each inning. That was enough to take the win from the Highlanders.

Kayla Loomis pitched all seven innings. Loomis allowed nine hits, four earned runs, two walks, and had one strikeout.

Game 2

The Cardinals scored first in the bottom of the first, scoring one run. Fisher scored 10 runs in the bottom of the second, bringing the score to 11-0. They added to their lead with their final run in the bottom of the third.

The Highlanders couldn't get their bats going with only three hits of the game. Rachel Scharf had a double, while Lydia Peterson and Jen Page each had singles.

Jennifer Burrows got the start, pitching 1.1 innings. Burrows allowed nine hits, eight earned runs, no walks, and no strikeouts. Alisabeth Crandall came in relief in the bottom of the second, pitching 2.2 innings. Crandall allowed six hits, three earned runs, three walks, with no strikeouts.

Houghton softball is back in action at Alfred University on Saturday, April 22 for a doubleheader at 12 and 2 p.m.
