Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Houghton softball hasn't been able to find the winning formula, losing twice more in Florida on Friday.
The Highlanders opened the day with a 12-3 loss to Northwestern (Minn.) and then fell 9-0 to Alma.
GAME 1 vs. Northwestern
Houghton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opener, taking advantage of four walks and a wild pitch, while producing two hits. The big hit of the inning came with the bases loaded, as
Chyanne Bushyhead doubled to drive in all three runs. But the thrill of that early lead soon was lost as Northwestern scored six runs in the bottom of the first, six more in the bottom of the second, and held the Highlanders scoreless the rest of the way in the five inning affair.
Houghton finished with four hits in the contest.
Kayla Loomis got the start and went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing all 11 runs on 10 hits.
Alisabeth Crandall finished it out, allowing one run on four hits.
GAME 2 vs. Alma
The Houghton bats were quieted in the second-game shutout. The Highlanders only produced two hits (
Carlee Miller and
Chyanne Bushyhead). Starter
Jen Burrows pitched three innings, allowing six runs on six hits. Crandall came on in relief, pitching the final four innings.
Houghton heads back north after their week of Floriday contests, but hit the road for their next game on Friday, March 17 vs. Chatham.
