HOUGHTON, N.Y. — Behind a high-powered offense in the nightcap and steady pitching in the opener, the Houghton University softball team swept an Empire 8 doubleheader against Keuka College on Friday, winning 2-1 and 15-9.
Game 1: Houghton 2, Keuka 1
The Highlanders relied on a complete-game performance from Kareena Ulfig to secure a narrow victory in the first game of the day. Ulfig allowed only one unearned run on seven hits while striking out three across 7.0 innings.

Key Offensive Plays: Houghton answered Keuka's first-inning run immediately in the bottom half of the frame when Adelynn Killian grounded out to score Kelley Burnett. In the second inning, Burnett delivered the eventual game-winning RBI single to left field, scoring Rebecca Oates.

Defensive Stand: Ulfig and the Highlander defense stranded eight Keuka runners, including leaving the bases loaded in the top of the seventh to preserve the win.
Game 2: Houghton 15, Keuka 9
The bats came alive in the second game as Houghton erased an early deficit with a massive 15-hit attack to complete the sweep.

Big Innings: After falling behind 1-0, Houghton exploded for three runs in the first, four in the third, and six in the fifth inning.

Hannah Fish was a perfect 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring three runs and driving in two.

Maggie Zastrow went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Abigail Pitts contributed a huge two-run single in the third inning to help extend the lead.

Kareena Ulfig remained productive, hitting a double and recording two RBIs.

Pitching: Ulfig earned her second win of the day in relief, throwing 3.1 innings and allowing just two earned runs.
Next Up: With the sweep, Houghton moves to 6-20 (3-15 E8) on the season as they continue their Empire 8 conference schedule Monday at Elmira.
