HOUGHTON, NY – The Houghton Highlanders turned in an impressive performance on opening night, thanks in large part to a swarming defense, as they defeated the SUNY Delhi Broncos, 94-21.
The Highlanders cashed in on 31 steals, turning them into 55 points, and limited the Broncos to only seven field goals on 35 attempts (20 percent).
Houghton scored the first 11 points of the game and never looked back, racking up an 18-point lead (27-9) at the end of the first quarter, and a 47-13 advantage at the half.
The third quarter may have been the Highlanders finest, as they outscored the Broncos, 32-2, before closing out the final 10 minutes with a score of 15-6.
