HAMBURG, NY – The Houghton Highlanders put together a swarming defensive effort on Saturday afternoon, forcing 28 turnovers and limiting the Hilbert Hawks to just 23 percent shooting from the field, as they picked up their fifth win of the season in as many attempts, 61-34.
Houghton limited the Hawks to just one field goal in the first quarter, jumping out to an 18-5 lead.
While Hilbert would regain their composure, putting the clamps on the Highlanders offense in the second half, and outscoring Houghton, 9-7, over the 10 minute period, Houghton would take a 25-14 lead into the half.
The second half would be all Houghton, as the Highlanders knocked down 54 percent of their shots from the field and 86 percent of their shots from the foul line, sealing the victory.
