HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton women's soccer was forced to play catchup after surrendering the opening goal to Alfred just two minutes into the contest, but the hosts could not find the equalizer and ultimately dropped a 2-0 decision to the visiting Saxons on Wednesday at Burke Field.

DETAILS
>> A looping 25-yard shot from Alfred found its way over Houghton keeper Alliah Fluent and grazed the crossbar as it bounced into the goal in the third minute.
>> The visitors gave themselves a two-goal cushion in the 18th minute
>> As the first half ticked away and into the early minutes of the second half, Houghton played with more energy and with more crispness in their possession. They produced their most dangerous chances late in the first half. Taylor Curyto took a 10 yard shot that the keeper parried away, but the ball went right to the feet of an on-rushing Natalie Milne. Unfortunately Milne's follow-up shot sailed over the bar from eight-yards away.
