Golden Flyers Pull Away in Final Minutes to Defeat Highlanders

HOUGHTON, NY— In a near repeat of the last time the two teams met in the Nielsen Center, the Nazareth Golden Flyers turned a one-point fourth quarter lead into a 13-point victory, defeating the Houghton Highlanders, 56-43.

After playing to a one-point Nazareth lead at the half, Houghton pulled ahead, 30-28, on a Carlee Miller layup, with 6:38 to play in the third quarter.  The Golden Flyers, though, would outscore the Highlanders over the remainder of the period, 10-2, to take a six-point advantage into the final 10 minutes.

Houghton would quickly battle back in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, pulling to within a point following a Malorie Eslick three and a Crysta Lacrosse layup.  The Golden Flyers, however, would dominate the remaining minutes, reeling off a 14-1 run and outscoring the home team, 18-6, until the final buzzer.
