Highlanders Establish New Record in Win Over Wolves

HOUGHTON, NY— The Houghton Highlanders drained a program-record 15 threes in route to their 13th victory of the season, defeating the Keuka Wolves on Saturday afternoon, 84-53.
 
The Highlanders came out of the gates in a frenzy, knocking down 69 percent of their shots, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, in the first quarter.  Keuka nearly equaled Houghton's efforts, shooting 54 percent from the floor over the first 10 minutes, and hitting 3-of-5 from long distance. 
 
At the end of the first quarter, Houghton led, 24-17.
 
The second quarter proved pivotal, as the Highlanders stayed hot on offense, scoring 29 points, and brought forth a swarming defense, limiting the Wolves to only 11 points, hitting on only 27 percent from the floor.
 
At the half, Houghton led, 53-28.
 
While the pace slowed in the second half, the Highlanders continued to outdistance the Wolves, winning the last 20 minutes, 31-25.

>> Seven different Highlanders hit at least one three pointer, led by Crysta Lacrosse, who made four, and Hannah Roeske and Abby Guiher, who converted three apiece.
 
>> Lacrosse finished with 14 points and three assists, while Roeske added 13 points, five rebounds and three blocked shots.  Lacrosse stretched her double-digit points per game streak to five straight games.
