Allegheny Blanks Men's and Women's Tennis

The Houghton University Men's and Women's Tennis Program traveled out to Allegheny Tuesday afternoon, but were shutout by the Gators with 9-0 scores in the dual match.

The Lady Highlander's were unable to garner any success in doubles dropping all three matches, but Chloe Esch and Elise Swanson continued their strong play at first doubles falling to a talented Allegheny pairing 8-3. In singles play, Chloe Esch, Marilynn Amborski, and Arija Grant were able to grab some games but could not hold momentum in their matches.

The Men's Tennis team was able to push the Gators with some solid individual matches. In doubles, the second pairing of Matt Cicero and Nolan Zach battled hard losing 8-5 in a high quality match. In singles play, Matt Cicero and Adam Brown each battled back from subpar first sets to finish with identical scorelines of 6-0, 6-4. Graham Cook ended the afternoon with a steady performance at the sixth singles spot falling 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) in a thrilling second set.

"It is always difficult playing a team that is a higher level, but there are a lot of learning lessons that we can take from this contest," Coach Shilvock said after the match. "As a program we will go back to practice and work on the areas that were highlighted today."

The men's team will close out the Fall season with regional an individual ITA tournament, and the women will look to regroup after an extended break against Sage Colleges, Septmeber 18th.
