FORT PIERCE, FL— The Elizabethtown Blue Jays scored nine runs over their final three frames to beat the Houghton Highlanders in both teams' first game in Florida.
Over the first half of the game Houghton's
Ethan Cetton and Elizabethtown's Kevin Mulville squared off in a classic pitchers' duel, trading zeros through the first three innings until the Blue Jays final broke the drought with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth.
Houghton put runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings but could not push across a run.
With the Blue Jays leading, 2-0, in the top of the sixth,
Dylan Boprey led off with a single, followed by a
Zach Parr walk. Cetton helped his cause with an RBI single to left, and the Highlanders still had runners on first and second with nobody out.
After a failed bunt attempt, Houghton loaded the bases, but Mulville induced two weak ground balls to escape the inning.
The Blue Jays finally broke the game open in the sixth, taking advantage of three hits, including two doubles, a pair of walks by the Houghton bullpen, and a sacrifice fly to take a 6-1 advantage.
Two innings later, Elizabethtown wrapped out four more hits and drew two more walks, rounding out the scoring with five more runs.

COACH'S CORNER:
"Two innings really hurt us, and we could not get the big hit to drive in runs when we needed it. I thought that Ethan [Cetton] gave us a quality start, our defense was solid, and we put men on base. We just couldn't finish, and that's something we will need to learn to do if we want to compete throughout the season.
"This was a teachable game. We'll get better because our guys want to get better. I'm looking forward to going back to work tomorrow." – Head Coach
Brian Reitnour
