HOUGHTON, NY— A trio of Golden Flyers combined to score 60 points, leading Nazareth College past the Houghton Highlanders in Saturday's regular season finale at the Nielsen Center, 92-65.
Stephen Gabel (21 points), Zach Stenglein (20 points), and Jonathan Park (19 points)—all of whom rank in the top 15 in points per game in the Empire 8—shot a combined 24-for-41 (59 percent) from the floor to guide the Golden Flyers to their 21
st victory of the season.
After Nazareth jumped out to an early lead, Houghton battled back, eventually tying the game on a
Jordan Holmes three, then commandeering the lead moments later on a
Billy McCrae jumper.
A 10-0 run midway through the first half put the Highlanders up by eight, 20-12, before the Golden Flyers began to separate, eventually pulling ahead by 15 at the half.
The second half brought more of the same, as Houghton never pulled closer than a 12-point margin.
Jordan Holmes finished his Houghton career with a team-high 17 points and five assists, going 7-for-15 from the floor.
