ONEONTA, N.Y. – Maggie Kirby (20 points) and Giuliana Pritchard (19 points) tag-teamed to lead a high-powered Hartwick Hawks offensive performance in Saturday afternoon's win over the visiting Houghton Highlanders.
After a layup from
Abby Guiher gave the Highlanders a one-point lead midway through the first quarter, 11-10, the Hawks reeled off a 9-0 run to close out the opening 10 minutes up, 19-11.
The second quarter would belong entirely to the Hawks, as they continued to widen their lead, outscoring the Highlanders, 24-7, in the quarter, and finishing the half up by 25, 43-18.
In the third Hartwick would widen the gap to as many as 30 points, but Houghton should they still had some fight left in them, outscoring the Hawks in the quarter, 20-17, and trimming the deficit to 22 points.
That, however, would be as close as the Highlanders would come, as the Hawks pulled away down the stretch with another offensive display over the final 10 minutes.
