HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton tied Hartwick, 1-1, in Empire 8 women's soccer action on Homecoming Saturday at Burke Field.

The Highlanders had gained a 1-0 early in the first half before Hartwick found the equalizer midway through the second period.

DETAILS
>> Houghton grabbed the early lead in the 9th minute when freshman Madison Luxmore served up a 40-yard direct kick into the box. The ball bounced 10 yards from the goal, over the defenders, past the charger keeper and slipped just inside the left post.
>> Houghton controlled the majority of the play throughout the early parts of the first half, but the Hawks soon responded and began to play with more purpose. Houghton took the first four shots of the game, but the Hawks finished a 7-4 lead in shots at the half.
>> The Hawks continued to press in the second stanza and finally broke through in the 65th minute. A long pass into the box was quickly redirected just inside post and past Megan Merrifield.

NOTABLE STATS
>> The Hawks finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots, including a 7-6 edge in shots on goal.
>> Merrifield made six saves in net.
>> Sarah Potocki led the Highlanders with three shots, two on net.
