Highlanders and Saxons Play to Scoreless Tie

ALFRED, N.Y. -- Houghton women's soccer battled to a 0-0 tie with Alfred University on the road Wednesday night.

This one was a hard-fought affair all evening with neither team gaining much momentum or dominating possession. While the Saxons finished with the edge in shots, Houghton pushed deep into Saxons territory on a number of occasions but were unable to get clean shots on goal.

DETAILS

>> Megan Merrifield, who finished with three saves on the night, needed to make two key stops in final 12 minutes. The Saxons also sent a shot just wide of the goal in the 87th minute and earned two corners in the final minute, but were unable to get off another shot.
>> Despite not being able to get many shots on goal, the Highlanders, led by Sarah Potocki, made several deep runs and sent long passes into Saxons box late in the second half.
