Men's Soccer Drops Home Game to Medaille

Houghton, NY– The Houghton College Men's soccer  three game winning streak was snapped on Wednesday night on Burke Field against Medaille.

The first half started poorly for the Highlanders as the Maavericks were able to score within the first 5 minutes of the match off the foot of Joshua Bailey. This put Houghton in a 1-0 hole that they would spend the majority of the half trying to climb out of. They would have opportunities to score as they won the shot battle in the first half 5-3. However, none of these shots were able to find the back of the net, leaving the score 1-0 in favor of the Mavericks going into the half.

In the second half Medaille came out on the offensive, taking control of possession and forcing Houghton to be on the defensive for most of the half. This allowed the Mavericks to win the shot battle 10-5 although the Highlanders did an excellent job of keeping them out of the back of the net. Even though the Highlanders were playing excellent defense, they had trouble finding the back of the net which led to them being scoreless in the competition. With time running out it seemed as if the game would end 1-0, but the Mavericks were able to find a last minute goal from Ander Castillo making the final 2-0 as the clock expired.

With the loss, the Highlanders drop to 3-6 as they prepare for Keuka on the road on Saturday Afternoon.
