Houghton College Women's Tennis dropped a Non-Conference match against Geneseo College 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights proved to be too much in this battle as they overpowered the Highlanders in both singles and doubles play.
In doubles action,
Elise Swanson and
Erin Haley fell at the first position 8-1, Maddi Soth and
Chloe Esch were defeated 8-2 at second doubles, and the third doubles tandem of
Hialeah Johnson and
Tessa Brown lost 8-2. As the match transitioned into singles play, the Knights would not take their foot off the gas sweeping all six courts.
Erin Haley on court two and
Chloe Esch at third singles would each have their moments but could not sustain the pressure, falling 6-3, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively.
"The ladies fought hard against a talented opponent today that proved to be a little too good in key moments of the match," Head Coach
Zach Shilvock commented post-match. "We have two important conference matchups coming up so we have to refocus our energy quickly heading into the weekend."
The defeat drops the Highlanders to 2-5 (2-1 E8) on the year. Houghton will look to rebound as they travel to Nazareth College for a 4pm match Friday, and then take on St. John Fisher College 4pm Saturday at home for their Senior Game.
