Houghton, NY– The Houghton College Men's soccer lost a nail biter to SUNY Brockport 3-2 on Tuesday night. The Highlanders gave it their all but ultimately would fall to the golden eagles.
The first half proved to be a defensive battle as both teams attempted to gain possession while neither could find the back of the net for the majority of the period. As the game seemed to be going into the half with a 0-0 score, the Golden Eagles were able to get on the board with a goal off the foot of Josh Fitzpatrick with only seconds remaining in the half. This would put the highlanders in a 1-0 hole going into the break.
Houghton rallied as the second half began with Brice Bogna finding the goal off a header in the 60th minute of the match to tie the game 1-1. As time ticked, Josh Fitzpatrick would find the net for a second time, giving the Golden Eagles a 2-1 lead. As the battle continued between the two squads Colby Egan would find the back of the net, giving Brockport huge momentum and a 3-1 lead at the 76 minute mark. As hope began to fade for the Highlanders Brice Bogna found the back of the net for a second time as he headed the ball in off the corner kick from Andy Loomis, giving the Highlanders some hope with the score being 3-2 with 6 minutes remaining. However, this hope would eventually flatten as the clock hit zero and the Highlanders fall to Brockport 3-2.
