HOUGHTON, NY— After missing the last six games,
Wayne Rode made his presence felt immediately for the Houghton Highlanders, belting homeruns in his first at bat in both ends of today's doubleheader, but the Cardinals once again swept the Highlanders, 10-2 and 14-2.
A key defensive miscue in the first inning of the first game left runners on base for a three-run homer off the bat of Luke Duffy. That would be all the offense the Cardinals would need as they received a gem on the mound from ace, RJ Kuruts. The senior right-hander tossed all seven innings, allowing only four hits and two runs, while walking two and striking out 12.
In the second game, Rode put the Highlanders up by a run with a deep homerun to right-center, but the Houghton bats never followed suit, as Fisher starter Michael Poirier settled in to dominate the Houghton lineup for six strong innings. Poirier allowed only one hit after Rode's homerun, walking only two and striking out nine.
The Houghton pitching staff combined to walk 16 batters in the second game, allowing the Cardinals offense to roll, as they scored 14 runs on 11 hits, including three triples.

COACH'S CORNER:
"After playing them pretty tough at their place, it was certainly disappointing to have the type of day that we had today.
"We simply gave up too many free bases—walks, wild pitches, passed balls. It's hard to win games against good teams when you put yourself in a hole consistently.
"Fisher's pitchers threw very well. They worked quickly, changed speeds and located all day long. We'll tip our caps and get ready for tomorrow. This team has bounced back before and I believe we'll do it again." – Coach
Brian Reitnour
