ALFRED, N.Y. – Wins are still proving to be hard to come by in the competitive Empire 8 as Houghton softball lost twice on the road to Alfred on Wednesday night. The Saxons claimed game one by a 7-3 score and closed the night with a 3-1 victory.
Game 1: Alfred 7, Houghton 3
Houghton jumped on the Saxons early with three runs in the top of the first before Alfred scored all seven of its runs over the next three innings.
Game 1 Notes
- Caitlyn Cybart led the way at the plate with three hits and a run scored
- Grace Thompson added two hits and two RBI
- Alisabeth Crandall tallied a hit, a run and an RBI
- The Highlanders produced 10 total hits
- Kayla Loomis went the distance, allowing seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits with one strikeout and three walks.
Game 2: Houghton 1, Alfred 3
The nightcap saw Alfred gain a 2-0 first inning lead on a two-run homerun. Houghton was able to cut the margin to one in the top of the third when
Caitlyn Cybart doubled home Jennifer Page, but that's all the Highlanders would see cross the plate. The Saxons added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Highlanders return home for a 5 / 7 p.m. doubleheader vs. Elmira on Friday, April 16.
