Highlanders Move to 3-0 with Repeat Win Over Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y.Emie Taylor notched her third consecutive double-double to help lead the Houghton Highlanders past the Elmira Pioneers for the second time in as many weeks, 56-41.

Taylor grabbed 17 rebounds and added 13 points and three blocks, while teammates Alex Steele and Hannah Cybart added 12 and 10 points apiece, respectively.

Houghton shot out of the gates early, outscoring the Soaring Eagles 15-4 in the first quarter, in what looked to be a repeat of last week's game between the two teams.  But Elmira tightened the ship in the second, clipping the Highlanders, 16-15, to cut the Houghton lead to 10 at the half.

Elmira opened the second half with a 6-1 run, trimming the deficit to only five point, and would eventually trail by only four after a layup by Autumn Hunsinger with 4:38 to play in the third quarter.

After the Soaring Eagles scored the opening basket in the fourth quarter, the final minutes belonged to the Highlanders, as the outscored Elmira, 15-5, over the final eight minutes.

Caitlyn Cybart put the nail in the coffin with just over a minute remaining, draining a deep three, drawing the foul, and sinking the ensuing free throw to complete a four-point play.

Houghton finished their abbreviated season, 3-0.
