Houghton women's tennis got their season underway, falling short to a tough Nazareth Golden Eagles team 9-0 on Saturday. Nazareth came out of the gate fast to start the day in doubles. Tessa Brown and Maddi Soth put up a strong battle eventually falling 8-4 at the second pairing.
In singles action, Erin Haley and Tessa Brown had strong showings at 2nd and 4th singles, each respectfully coming up short 8-3. Sophia Yescott picked up a game in her first ever college match as well, falling 8-1 in fifth singles.
"The girls came out a little tentative but worked through their nerves later in the match. Everyone possessed a good attitude and played aggressive. We are feeling super blessed to be back competing on the tennis court!" – Head Coach Tonya McGraner.
Houghton will look to bounce back later today when they take on the Utica Pioneers at 5pm.
