BRADFORD, PA— The Pitt-Bradford Panthers pulled off a fourth-quarter comeback to stun the visiting Houghton Highlanders, 71-62, in the season-opening matchup for both teams.
Houghton came out of the gates at a sprint, outpacing the Panthers, 21-10, in the first quarter. Bradford battled back, though, trimming the Highlanders' lead to seven, 39-32, at the break.
After three, Houghton still maintained a three point lead, 49-46, but the Panthers exploded in the final minutes.
Over the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter Pitt-Bradford outscored the Highlanders, 23-1, surging to a 19-point lead.
Houghton fought valiantly over the closing minutes, finishing the game with a 12-3 run of their own, but the deficit proved too much as the Panthers walked away with the victory.
