GROVE CITY, PA— Despite committing the fewest number of turnovers since February 2020, the Houghton Highlanders could not match the inside presence of the Grove City Wolverines, falling on the road, 54-72.
The Wolverines dominated the glass, outrebounding the Highlanders, 65-37, including a 20-10 advantage on the offensive boards.
Houghton remained close throughout the first half, trailing by only one with less than five minutes to play before the break. Over the next few minutes Grove City would stretch their lead to seven before a pair of
Andrew Wright free throws sent the two teams to the locker rooms separated by five points.
Five minutes into the second half, following a short burst by the Wolverines,
Jordan Holmes hit a three-pointer to pull Houghton within six points. That would be as close as the Highlanders would come, as Grove City slowly began to pull away throughout the remainder of the game.
Houghton scored their fewest points of the season, converting only 19-of-69 shots from the floor and only 2-of-20 from three-point range.
