HOUGHTON, NY – In their final game of the 2021 season, the Houghton Highlanders delivered an emphatic sendoff to four seniors with a 7-0 victory over the visiting Russell Sage Gators.
Bekah Davie tallied her first career hat trick, scoring her team-leading eighth, ninth and 10
th goals of the season.
Jace Hunzinger added a goal and four assists, topping her previous career-best of three assists against Wells earlier this season. She finished the season with six goals and 12 assists, and led the Highlanders with 24 points this season.
Seniors
Zoey Kasper and
Peyton Bentley added final goals for Houghton. Kasper scored the first goal of the game, and her second this season, in the 13
th minute of play. Bentley collected her second multi-goal game of the season, posting her eighth and ninth goals in the 33
rd and 35
th minutes of play. She also added an assist, her fourth of the season.
Houghton's final senior,
Molly Brizzell, had what would have been her first career goal called back in the final minute of play. After a shot by Bentley was denied by the Sage keeper, Brizzell buried the putback into the back of the cage, but the goal was waved off by the official because a foul had occurred prior to her shot.

Sofia Gildemeister picked up her fourth win of the season. Never having played field hockey prior to coming to Houghton, Gildemeister finished her two-year career with 107 saves, including a career-high 19 saves against Hartwick on October 2.
