ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Net play proved a significant factor Thursday night at the Palestra, as the Rochester Yellowjackets defeated the Houghton Highlanders in straight sets, 3-0.
Rochester collected eight total blocks and posted 36 kills with a .250 attack percentage. Houghton tallied two blocks and 23 kills, but committed 21 attack errors.
The Yellowjackets took the first two sets in stride, but refused to go home quietly, battling throughout the third set.
With the Highlanders leading, 19-15, Rochester reeled off five straight points, and took seven of the next eight to take the lead, 22-20.
Back-to-back kills by
Allison Morgan and
Julie Immel would even the score, 22-22, but a kill by Rochester's Emma Sokolowski, and back-to-back Houghton attack errors would give the set and match to the Yellowjackets.
