HOUGHTON, NY— Four Houghton players scored in double-digits, as the Highlanders utilized a well-balanced offensive attack and a stingy defense to defeat the visiting Elmira Soaring Eagles on Saturday afternoon, 70-47.
Brooke Lewandowski and
Hannah Cybart scored 13 points apiece, while
Cori Beck added 12 and
Emie Taylor 10, as the Highlanders shot 52 percent from the floor, their second best output of the season.
Houghton captured their first lead just over four minutes into the game and never looked back, outscoring the Soaring Eagles by five points in each of the first two quarters then building a 16-point lead by the end of the third.
On the defensive end, the Highlanders held Elmira to only 18-of-53 (34 percent) shooting, including only 2-of-13 from three-point range.
